Bible Study Lesson-2

The Creation Of Man By The Direct Act Of God

The doctrine of the inspiration of the Bible cannot be overemphasized for upon it rests the truth of all our theology. Our faith is built upon the promises of God, which are revealed in His Word; and if we cannot depend upon it as infallible, authoritative, and divinely inspired, we have no assurance of anything.

God’s Word was not given us to teach us science, but the same God who wrote the Book made the laws, which govern science and would cause to be set down in His Word anything that would be contrary to His own laws. Thus when we read in Genesis “God created man… (1:27); we must accept it as fact.

Evolution teaches that man was not created by a single and direct act of God but that man evolved from lower forms of life. There are many theories of evolution but all are based in some degree in Darwin’s Theory. Charles Darwin was a naturalist who was studying life forms in the South Pacific. Eventually he began to speculate that life possibly came from one source—that is, that all forms of life as we know them today had their origin in one cell, one primitive form of life. In his research, Darwin does not make the blunt claim that anything evolved from some other form of life. Instead he writes that “we may assume”, we may conclude. His was mere supposition, but out of it atheistic scientists built a system that the devil has used to destroy man’s faith in the Bible.

It is interesting to note that on his deathbed, Darwin expressed regret that his work had caused people to weaken their belief in the Word of God.

Now let me tell you a story, this is what the evolutionists would like us to believe.

In a warm sea, thousands and thousands of years ago one cell of life existed (they don’t know where this cell originated nor do they know where this warm sea originated either). As the ages went by, the cell developed into various directions. Single cells began to expand and divide: one cell became two, two became four, and so on. By and by, two or three cells decided to stick together—in unity there is strength. They agreed to stick together rather than alone. They had a meeting of single cells and voted to become some kind of fish—a slightly higher form of life. Now remember, none of this happened over night. The evolutionists would have us believe that each transformation took place over millions of years.

One day when the sun was shining on part of the creature, it decided that would be a great place to grow and eye; so certain cells volunteered to become eyes. After a few million of years, the creature thought it would be a good idea to see what was on the land. But in order to do this, it had to grow lungs. So it slithered and slid but finding this to be a slow method of travel, other cells decided that it would be a good idea to legs on which to move around. So after another million years, legs developed. As it walked around, it looked up into the sky and so some of the creatures grew wings, became birds and flew away. Others chose to crawl around in the swamps as lizards. Others found it hard to make the choice, so they grew both wings and tails to become flying lizards. Now by this process of adapting to an environment, man finally evolved. This is when trouble began: man took over. Somewhere along the line, the evolutionists would like us to believe that these cells decided to be male and female. But, they just cannot figure out when this happened. Sounds ridiculous doesn’t it!!!!

Then they decided that man evolved from ape like creatures…. except this last week (in 2010) Discovery Channel aired a program about a new discovery…man could not have possibly evolved from an ape.

There is nothing more lacking in good sense than this evolutionary theory. How any intelligent person can believe this is way beyond me! The sad part is that the theory of evolution defies all the rules of scientific evidence. Scientists tell us that for a theory to be correct, you have to be able to duplicate it over and over again. We can prove the theory of gravity. We can prove many other theories. What made evolution stop? For that matter, what made it begin???? Why cannot the scientists duplicate evolution and why does it not continue? Why are not more apes “evolving” into humans?

This is where the idea of Theistic evolution begins. The word theistic means “taking God into account.” A theistic evolutionist is one who says “I believe that God was in all of this—that He brought man into being by a process of evolution. In other words, he attempts to reconcile Genesis to evolution. But it cannot be done, the two are not reconcilable. No matter who he may be and no matter what he may claim, no evolutionist believes the Word of God. He may be a deist—believes in some sort of god—but he has no right to call himself a Christian, because he disbelieves God’s Record.

Everything in creation was prepared for man. God set the stage and then took counsel, as a Trinity, and said, “let us make man in our image, after our likeness.” Then the Scriptures go on to read “so God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him, male and female created he them…” Later we read that God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam and from his rib, He made a woman. According to the Genesis account, woman could not have evolved along with the man; by a direct act of God she was made from the rib of the man who had already been created by a direct act of God. In Genesis 2:7 we plainly read that “God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into the nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul. It does not say that man became a living creature. It does not say that man came from the warm ocean. It does not say that man came from an ape. Our relatives may have swung from trees, but it was not by their tails…it might have been by their necks at the end of noose.

Man is an immortal being, and his immortal soul did not develop through any evolutionary hypothesis. God breathed His own breath into him.

There are many questions we cannot answer with regard to the creation of man. But one thing is certain; he did not evolve. God tells us all He wants us to know, and this He expects us to accept by faith. Beyond what is written, we are not to speculate.

The whole theory of evolution is foolish. The sad part is that men have decided that this theory is now scientific fact. But there are so many holes in the theory. Scientists call these holes the missing link. Compare the guesses of men with the facts of God’s Word, and you will easily see the superiority of the Biblical record. There is no missing link. God created man from the dust of the earth. His Word declares it, and therefore, we believe it.

Man was created in the image of God by a direct act, even as God said. There is no room in our belief for any evolutionary theory.

The process of the human race has not been upward from the swamp by evolution, but downward from the garden by sin. In a perfect environment man sinned; and the result of that sin is apparent in the world today. Every generation of mankind, instead of being better, has been basically worse for the reason that it has been another generation of sin and flight from God. True man is living longer due to modern medicine. But spiritually and morally he has sunk as low as he can go. He has messed up his government;’ he faces problems that are beyond his power to solve; he has discovered scientific means of destruction that he is afraid to handle; his heart is failing him for fear of those things which shall come upon the earth; moral conditions are deplorable. Sinful man likes to think that he is the master of his environment, that he is a creature of great gifts, that he has no need of God. That is not true. In Acts 17:28 it says that it is in Him that “we live, and move, and have our being.”

The evolutionary theory completely sets at naught John 3:16. God created man so that man could fellowship with Him. However, He gave to man a free will to choose to love Him. But man sinned and caused his fellowship with God to be broken.

Man, though he was created in the image of God, fell from the place where God meant him to be; and he has need of God’s regenerating grace to restore him. May God help us to abide in His true doctrines and not be “carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive.” (Ephesians 4:14)
